For the Gods!

Created by Mighty Boards

For the Gods! is a strategic area control game in which every stone shapes your path to victory. The rules are simple: Sail the seas to establish new towers or strengthen existing ones. Along the way, collect God stones and unleash their divine powers at the right moment. With twelve unique God powers, each game offers fresh strategies and dynamic gameplay, ensuring high variability. Design by David Thompson, Trevor Benjamin and Brett J. Gilbert (who brought you games like Undaunted, Mandala, War Chest and Guild of Merchant Explorers).

Latest Updates from Our Project:

The Factions & the Gods!
about 1 month ago – Mon, Feb 23, 2026 at 08:17:09 AM

Hello all,

2000+ of you already decided to join the campaign! Thank you so much for all your support!

We've received nothing but kind words from you about this project, and couldn't feel more grateful. Even Rodney from Watch it Played gave it a recommendation!

Help us name the Factions!

Faction Leaders! Many of you helped us choose the Faction Emblems in the weeks before the campaign, and decided what the Faction Emblems would become. The Pegasus, Ram, Harp and Fish were the clear winners!

Now it's time to name your Factions!

What would you name each of them? Comment your suggestions below or on BoardGameGeek!

Our favorites will make it into the rulebook as official Faction names!

Meet Demeter and Poseidon!

Demeter is the goddess of the harvest and agriculture, presiding over the fertility of the earth. She is the sister of Hera, Hestia, Poseidon and Zeus.

When you dedicate a temple to Demeter, you may use player stones in your hand to elevate one of your other temples anywhere on the board. A Demeter stone in your bag provides reassurance, allowing you to defend a region at a distance without altering your plans.

Poseidon is the god of the sea and storms and protector of the seafarers. He is the brother of Demeter, Hera, Hestia and Zeus.

Before you dedicate a temple to Poseidon, you may move to any harbour without spending any stones for movement. Nowhere on the map is safe when you’ve got Poseidon in your bag!

In For the Gods!, your current position conveys important information. The farther you are from a location the less likely you are to be able to raise high temples there quickly. In the game, for each step you move, you must discard a stone from the 5 that you draw at the end of your previous turn. These are stones you cannot use to raise temples that turn! Furthermore, the more stones you have used of a specific rank, the less likely you are to draw that stone. Advanced For the Gods! players often use this information to estimate their likelihood of winning a specific region.

That is, of course, unless Demeter or Poseidon are in play! Demeter and Poseidon have abilities that help you misdirect your opponents based on your location.

Poseidon is simple - through his command of the sea he allows you to "teleport" to any other port. If you don’t count the exuberant splashing, I suppose your opponents won’t see you coming.

Demeter is useful in a different way; she lets you raise temples from a remote location. This means you get to maintain your position but affect, for once, something far away. Great ability for an unexpected power move. Totally unrelated fun-fact drop - in Maltese we call that a “Mossa Kobra”.

It would be awesome if you could help us share the love! Share the page, talk about the game online, and pass it along to your friends!

First 48 hours, the Map (and a Challenge) & the Gods!
about 1 month ago – Thu, Feb 19, 2026 at 07:37:58 AM

Hello all,

More than 1,300 of you already decided to join us in the first 48 hours AND we've been #1 in the BoardGameGeek Hotness list for 3 days in a row - thank you so much for your support!!

The Archipelago Map

The map of For the Gods! is a visually stunning (as some of you kindly pointed out) creation of our graphic designer Max.

It all started with a vision. The moment I heard about the game for the first time I felt inspired and knew I’d like to contribute something special to the project. We considered many possibilities for the map as a team, and when the opportunity arose for me to develop it myself, I embraced it. I brought up the idea of creating an intricate design inspired by ancient art and ran with it. I painted each tile piece by piece, like a real mosaic, so the map feels alive with texture, colour, and tiny imperfections that make it unique.

As I was working on it, I was striving to express that natural warmth and rhythm of human craft with each brushstroke. First came the swirling waters that cradle the archipelago. Before long, we felt compelled to push the vision further: lush landscapes took shape, followed by bustling settlements with whitewashed walls, tiled roofs, and street patterns that naturally form a mosaic. It was a slow process, but that’s part of the joy.

My work on For the Gods comes from a deep dedication to and passion for board games. I hope it shines through and brings you joy as you play and explore the map. Oh, and one last thing, I have hidden a few little surprises for you to find there. Enjoy! - Max

Setting up the Archipelago

Some of you were inquiring whether the island layout is fixed on the map, and how it folds. The islands are fixed - they are not moveable. The board will come in 2 separate foldable pieces which will lock together, but there is no arrangement or further assembly required.

Here are a few photos and a short video to show you how the map pieces fit into each other. The islands are fixed on top of the bottom layer, and they cover the puzzle locks of the map.

Note: if the video above doesn't load for you, you can also watch it here.

A little challenge - can you find the hidden MB logos?

Did you know we've hidden a couple of details into the map illustration? We challenge you to find all of the hidden Mighty Boards logos on the map!

To not spoil the fun for everyone else, we are running this challenge on BoardGameGeek, as you can easily use spoiler tags in the comments there to hide your replies.

Let us know how many hidden logos you can find!

Meet Artemis and Aphrodite!

As the gods make each game so unique, we will highlight 2 of them in each Kickstarter update to make you familiar with their powers.

Artemis is the goddess of the hunt, wilderness and childbirth. She is the daughter of Zeus and the twin sister of Apollo.

When you dedicate a temple to Artemis, you gain a bronze Glory token (worth 3 points) if at least one other ship is in the same harbour as yours. She entices you to divert your plans, pouncing on whoever happens to be near when you draw her.

Aphrodite is the goddess of love, beauty and fertility. She is the daughter of Zeus and wife of Hephaestus.

After you dedicate a temple to Aphrodite, you will gain a silver Glory token (worth 6 points) at the end of the game if your Aphrodite temple is the tallest temple in that region. Getting the extra value from Aphrodite takes some planning; where will you dedicate her temple? Will you "hide it away" or double down and place it in the most valuable region?

Artemis and Aphrodite are the only two gods that let you gain Glory tokens during the game. They allow you to supplement your score throughout the game, while reducing your reliance on the end-game scoring. This can be useful for a simple point advantage, but can also be used in the general mind-games that a game of For the Gods! involves.

Aphrodite essentially allows you to place a “bet” that your temple will be the tallest at the end of the game. At its base level of play, it can be used to score points in temples you are sure you will score. The timing of when you place the god stone, however, also changes the information you "telegraph". Placing it early can mean “stay away, this is mine” and shows early commitment, with the consequences thereof. But keeping your cards close to your chest can have a completely different meaning.

Artemis certainly offers a more tactical ability. It is a supplementary way to snag more points, especially if there are many players in the same area as you. Some players may try to avoid you once you have Artemis in your bag, but most of the time, Artemis is a rather easy opportunistic play.

Funded in 48 mins, Designer Diary & the Gods!
about 1 month ago – Tue, Feb 17, 2026 at 10:48:33 AM

Hello all!

We funded so fast! We were still finishing our celebratory pizza slice, looked away for a second, and more than 700 of you went ahead and blasted way past that funding goal! THANK YOU so much for your support.

Meet Zeus and Hephaestus!

As the gods make each game so unique, we will highlight 2 of them in each Kickstarter update to make you familiar with their powers.

Zeus

Zeus, god of sky and thunder, is the lord over Olympus. He is the brother of Demeter, Hestia and Poseidon, brother-husband of Hera, and father of Ares, Aphrodite and Athena, Hermes and Hephaestus.

When you dedicate a temple to Zeus, add a foundation stone to each of your other temples on the same island. It takes planning, but the power potential of Zeus is incredible. Growing three temples in one turn? Yes please!

Hephaestus

Hephaestus is the god of blacksmiths, artisans and fire. He is the son of Hera, brother of Ares, and husband of Aphrodite.

When you dedicate a temple to Hephaestus, you add a foundation stone to that same temple. The extra height provided by Hephaestus is often enough to swing a region to your favour!

Zeus and Hephaestus are gameplay analogues in For the Gods! They are some of the simpler but most immediately useful abilities as they offer the possibility to raise higher temples without the use of your own stones.

In For the Gods!, each player has 6 stones of each rank in their bag, and each temple you build can only have stones of the same rank. Players will be able to see how many stones of each rank you have on the board, so they can calculate the potential maximum height of your temple in a region. Managing the height of your temples is a large part of your strategy and timing in For the Gods!

By dedicating a temple to Zeus and Hephaestus you are able to raise temples beyond that 6 stone limit. Zeus allows you to raise all other temples on the island within which you dedicate a temple, whilst Hephaestus allows you to raise the temple you are dedicating itself.

Remember! All god stones start on the board at the beginning of the game, and you must travel to and start a temple in that region to be able to add the stone to your bag - so players can see which god stones you may have in your bag… if they are paying attention.

Designer Diary For the Gods!

Did you know the origin of For the Gods! can be traced all the way back to 2020? The designers were so kind to share the process with us of how the game design came to be. You can read all about it in the Designer Diary on BoardGameGeek!

You can also check out an interview with David Thomson by The Boardgames Chronicle here!
